Women’s Asia Cup 2026: India’s Road to the Semi-Finals, Hong Kong Test and Pakistan Clash
The Women’s Asia Cup 2026 has entered an important stage, with India already making a strong start to their campaign in Dubai. After a dominant opening victory over Thailand, the Indian team now turns its attention towards Hong Kong, China before a much bigger Group A contest against Pakistan.
India are aiming to reclaim the Women’s Asia Cup after losing the 2024 final to Sri Lanka. The tournament is being played in the T20 format from August 28 to September 13, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the semi-finals.
India Make a Statement Against Thailand
India began their campaign with a commanding 94-run victory over Thailand.
India posted 159/9, with Shafali Verma producing the standout performance. She scored 64 from 36 deliveries, including eight fours and three sixes.
Thailand were then restricted to 65 all out in 16.1 overs.
Deepti Sharma was one of India's leading performers with the ball and also created history by becoming the leading wicket-taker in women's T20I cricket.
The victory gave India two valuable points and a huge boost to their net run rate.
Pakistan Also Start With a Win
Pakistan began their campaign on September 1 with a 35-run victory over Thailand.
Pakistan scored 119/9 before restricting Thailand to 84/8.
Muneeba Ali top-scored with 54, while Sadia Iqbal produced an excellent bowling performance, taking 3/11.
The result means Pakistan also enter the India clash with two points.
India vs Hong Kong: The Next Challenge
India will face Hong Kong, China on September 3.
On paper, India are the clear favourites, but the match remains important because another victory would put India in an extremely strong position to qualify for the semi-finals.
India's biggest advantage is the depth in their batting and bowling. Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, Harmanpreet Kaur, Deepti Sharma and Richa Ghosh give India considerable experience, while players such as Pratika Rawal and Sree Charani provide additional options.
India vs Pakistan: The Big Group A Clash
India will face Pakistan on September 5 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
With both teams expected to enter the match with two points, the contest could have a major influence on the final Group A standings.
India will start as favourites, but Pakistan's opening victory means they cannot be underestimated.
For India, the priority will be to win the Hong Kong match first and then enter the Pakistan game with maximum confidence.
Sportspredictor Prediction
Our prediction is that India should qualify for the semi-finals.
India have the stronger overall squad and greater experience in major tournaments. Their batting depth and variety in spin bowling could be particularly important in Dubai conditions.
However, Pakistan remain the biggest challenge in Group A.
If India win both remaining group matches, they should finish at or near the top of the group and enter the semi-finals with strong momentum.
What to Watch
Shafali Verma's explosive batting
Smriti Mandhana's consistency
Deepti Sharma's all-round contribution
India's spin attack in Dubai
