India Women Win Eighth Asia Cup: A Dominant Campaign Ends in Glory

 India are once again the champions of Asia.

The Indian women's cricket team defeated Sri Lanka by 72 runs in the final of the 2026 Women's Asia Cup in Dubai, securing a record-extending eighth Asia Cup title.

More importantly, India completed the tournament unbeaten, finishing their campaign with a commanding performance when it mattered most.







Shafali and Smriti Set Up the Final

India won the toss and chose to bat, and the opening pair immediately put Sri Lanka under pressure.

Shafali Verma scored 68, while Smriti Mandhana made 59, with the duo producing a spectacular 129-run opening partnership.

Shafali's innings was particularly explosive as she registered the fastest fifty in Women's Asia Cup history, reaching the milestone in just 24 balls.

Their partnership provided India with the perfect platform to post 183/5 from their 20 overs.

India's Spinners Finish the Job

Sri Lanka needed 184 to win, but India's bowling attack never allowed the chase to develop.

Young spinner Sree Charani produced the standout performance with 4/20, while Deepti Sharma also played an important role as India's spinners dismantled the Sri Lankan batting lineup.

Sri Lanka were eventually bowled out for just 111, giving India a comprehensive 72-run victory.

Eight Asia Cup Titles

This victory further establishes India's dominance in the Women's Asia Cup.

India have now won the tournament eight times, extending their record as the most successful team in the competition.

The victory also carries additional significance because Sri Lanka had defeated India in the 2024 final.

This time, India produced the perfect response.

An Unbeaten Championship Campaign

India's title was not built around one individual performance.

Shafali Verma provided explosive starts, Smriti Mandhana delivered consistency at the top, while the bowling unit repeatedly found ways to control opposition batting line-ups.

That balance was one of the biggest reasons behind India's successful campaign.
