India enjoyed another productive day at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026, adding four medals on Day 2 to take its overall medal tally to six.
Shooting once again led India's medal charge, with Himanshu Dhillon winning silver, Rudrankksh Patil taking bronze and the Indian men's 10m air rifle team winning silver. Meanwhile, Suchika Tariyal created history by becoming India's first Asian Games medallist in mixed martial arts.
Despite the strong medal haul, India continued to wait for its first gold medal of the Games.
Shooting Delivers Three More Medals
The shooting range once again proved to be India's strongest medal-producing venue.
Himanshu Dhillon Wins Silver
India's Himanshu Dhillon won the silver medal in the men's 10m air rifle individual event.
Dhillon finished with 252.4 points, behind China's Olympic champion Sheng Lihao, who won gold with 254.2 points and set an Asian Games record.
The silver gave Dhillon his first Asian Games medal and added another podium finish to India's growing shooting tally.
Rudrankksh Patil Takes Bronze
India's Rudrankksh Patil completed a double podium finish for the country in the men's 10m air rifle individual event.
Patil scored 230.9 points to win bronze, while Dhillon secured silver.
The result meant India had two shooters on the individual podium in the same event.
Men's 10m Air Rifle Team Wins Silver
Himanshu Dhillon and Rudrankksh Patil were also part of India's men's 10m air rifle team alongside Parth Mane.
The trio combined for 1898.4 points to win silver.
China took gold with 1899.0 points, setting a new world record in the process.
The three shooting medals on Day 2 took India's shooting tally to five medals after Elavenil Valarivan and the women's 10m air rifle team had won two silvers on Day 1.
Suchika Tariyal Creates MMA History
One of the biggest stories of Day 2 came from Suchika Tariyal.
Tariyal became India's first Asian Games medallist in mixed martial arts, winning bronze in the women's traditional 60kg category.
She had reached the semifinal after defeating Mongolia's Altanchimeg Baigalmaa 2–0 in the quarterfinal.
Her semifinal against Singapore's Hui Hoon Teo ended in a draw. However, under the competition rules, the lighter athlete advances when a bout is tied.
Tariyal was around 700 grams heavier at the morning weigh-in, meaning Teo progressed to the final and Tariyal received the bronze medal.
Although the result ended her hopes of fighting for gold, her bronze created a historic milestone for Indian MMA at the Asian Games.
Women's Hockey Continues Strong Start
India's women's hockey team continued its impressive campaign with another dominant performance.
The Indian team defeated Indonesia 17–1 in Pool B.
After beginning the Games with a huge win over Uzbekistan on Day 1, India once again showed its attacking strength and maintained its strong position in the group stage.
Kabaddi Teams Begin Title Defence
India's kabaddi teams also started their campaigns on a winning note.
The Indian women's team defeated Bangladesh 42–21, while the men's team beat Japan 49–24.
Both teams are defending their Asian Games titles and will continue their campaigns in the coming days.
Badminton and Table Tennis Produce Wins
India's men's badminton team made a strong start, defeating Bangladesh 3–0.
Lakshya Sen, Kidambi Srikanth and Ayush Shetty won their singles matches as India advanced without needing to play the remaining doubles matches.
The Indian men's and women's table tennis teams also recorded 3–0 victories over Pakistan, adding more positive results across India's team-sport campaigns.
Boxing and Wushu Add More Positive Results
Indian boxer Sumit Kundu began his men's 70kg campaign with a convincing 5–0 victory over Thailand's Bunjong Sinsiri.
In wushu, Roshibina Devi and Aryan progressed to their respective quarterfinals, keeping India's medal hopes alive in the discipline.
