Asian Games 2026 Day 9: India Adds Seven Medals as Squash and Athletics Shine

India enjoyed another medal-filled day at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026, adding seven medals on September 27 to take its overall tally to 37 medals.

The ninth day was led by strong performances in athletics and squash, with India collecting four silver and three bronze medals. However, the country did not add a gold medal and moved to 12th position in the overall medal standings.

Seven Medals for India on Day 9

India's seven-medal haul consisted of:

  • 4 Silver

  • 3 Bronze

The four silver medals came from Anahat Singh, Abhay Singh, Ancy Sojan and Sarvesh Kushare.

The bronze medals were won by Parul Chaudhary, Harita Bhadra and Tejaswin Shankar.

Anahat Singh Makes History in Squash

One of the biggest moments of the day came from Anahat Singh.

The 18-year-old became the first Indian woman to reach an Asian Games singles squash final and subsequently secured the silver medal.

Anahat lost the women's singles final to Malaysia's Sivasangari Subramaniam in straight games, but her run represented a historic achievement for Indian squash.

Her silver also added to India's growing medal tally in squash.

Abhay Singh Takes Silver

India's Abhay Singh also finished with a silver medal in men's singles squash.

Abhay was defeated by Malaysia's Ng Eain Yow in the final.

With both Anahat Singh and Abhay Singh reaching the singles finals, India secured two squash silver medals on the same day.

Ancy Sojan Wins Long Jump Silver

Indian athletics continued to produce medals, with Ancy Sojan Edappilly winning silver in the women's long jump.

She recorded a best effort of 6.53 metres, finishing just two centimetres behind China's gold-medallist effort.

The performance added another silver to India's athletics tally.

Sarvesh Kushare Takes High Jump Silver

Sarvesh Kushare added another silver medal in the men's high jump.

His podium finish continued India's strong athletics campaign at Aichi-Nagoya and brought another field-event medal to the country's tally.

Three More Bronze Medals in Athletics

India also picked up three bronze medals on the track.

Parul Chaudhary — 3000m Steeplechase

Parul Chaudhary won bronze in the women's 3000m steeplechase.

Her medal added another podium finish to India's growing athletics haul.

Harita Bhadra — 200m

Harita Bhadra secured bronze in the women's 200m.

Her performance added another sprint medal for India at the Games.

Tejaswin Shankar — Decathlon

Tejaswin Shankar completed the medal-winning trio by taking bronze in the men's decathlon.

He finished the demanding ten-event competition with 7,934 points.

Boxing Provides More Medal Assurances

India's boxing campaign also received a boost, with Parveen Hooda, Ankush Panghal and Narender Berwal reaching their respective semifinals and assuring themselves of medals.

Their results mean India's medal count could increase further as the boxing competition progresses.

Badminton Ends Without an Individual Medal

The day also brought disappointment in badminton.

India's remaining individual entries were eliminated in the quarterfinals, meaning India did not win an individual badminton medal at these Games.

PV Sindhu lost her women's singles quarterfinal to China's Chen Yufei, while India's other remaining entries also exited at the quarterfinal stage.

India had already secured a bronze medal in the men's team event earlier in the Games.
